SMB’s Guide to Modern Identity Management

In the security realm, your Identity is your IT profile describing all of the behaviours and application requirements that are unique to you.

Think of your Identity as your digital workplace license. It proves you’re an employee and that you’re authorised to access specific applications and locations in your network.

This is important because if an employee is given greater access privilege than they require, the risks of insider threat compromise and data breaches are significantly increased.

To verify potential concerns about Identity Management, LastPass conducted a study of 750 IT and security professionals at organisations ranging from 250 to 3,000 employees.

Unsurprisingly, 93% of respondents agreed that a unified Identity Management solution would greatly benefit their organisation.

The study also discovered the following helpful insights:

  • 82% of respondents said their business experienced exposure to risk due to poor Identity Access Management (IAM).
  • 53% of respondents said they require large improvements in employee security behaviour.
  • IT security teams spend an average of 4 hours per week on password management-related issues.

A particularly interesting finding in this study was that Marketing and Sales were voted as the two departments most likely to act insecurity. This is a problem since the operations of these departments directly influence the health of a business.

To best address each of these pain points, a single solution covering the complete scope of identity management should be implemented. This will simplify the complexity of Identity Access Management while also making it easier for all departments to follow best security practices.

Such a conclusion aligns with the motivations of most IT professionals. As mentioned earlier, 93% of respondents in this study agreed on the importance of a unified IAM solution.

LastPass Identity is one of the most popular IAM solutions for SMBs. The one solution addresses all aspects of Identity management, including SSO, Adaptive Multi-Factor Authentication, password sharing, and access control. And it’s intuitive enough for all departments to integrate into their workflow.

LastPass also helps SMBs address the significant friction caused by poor identity management, helping IT and all other departments operate, not just more securely, but also more efficiently.
