Gateways are deployed in two scenarios:

For an enterprise who wants to virtualise RightFax an IP Gateway is used for connectivity to TDM telephony. In these scenarios the Gateway resides behind the enterprises firewall operating within the production network. For these deployments we recommend Quintum or Cisco.

For an enterprise who is implementing the Axient Hybrid FaxCloud we recommend the use of an IP Gateway as a Session Border Control or Edge Device. These appliances provide integrated enterprise session border control (SBC) features that include Network Address Translation (NAT) traversal, network-edge security, and a wide variety of SIP controls for interoperability. By defining a distinct and secure demarcation point or border for SIP services between public and private networks, the SIP service can become both more manageable and reliable. For this deployment scenario we recommend Quintum or Dialogic.
